1066 Swimmers' year of outstanding results continued with their under-13
squad competing recently at the Maritime gala in Sevenoaks.
Having selected a team from both lessons and the competitive squad, 1066
swimmers performed well with a good number of PBs coming from the up and
coming younger members of the club. For some of these swimmers, it was their
first gala after only taking part in half-hour lessons, once a week.
All swimmers arrived on poolside eager but a little nervous. They left
poolside, 3 hrs later, with smiles all-round and a new experience under the
belt! 1066 Swimmers came a creditable 6th place and rounded off the evening
with the traditional 1066 chant of 'OGGY'. 1066 reputedly are the loudest
squad at any gala in Sussex and this was no exception!!
Emma Cannon, 1066's Girls Club Captain for 2010 said "This gala was
really good fun, we had plenty of team spirit, all swimmers put lots of effort
into their swims and we are all extremely proud of them". Boys Club
Captain Lewis Peppiatt commented "If this gala is anything to go by 1066
has a great future". Both Emma and Lewis, joined by vice captain Josh
Bishop, travelled to the gala especially to support and encourage the younger
swimmers.
