1066 Swimmers came away with a clutch of medals and a total of 16 PBs at
the recent Atlantis Spring Open held at Horsham.
12-year-old Lucy Howes led the 1066 medal table with 3 golds, all in
personal best times, and followed that with a 4th place in the
keenly-contested 100m backstroke. Billy Matthews came storming home to take
gold in the 13-year-old boys 100m breaststroke, knocking 4 seconds off his
previous time.
Josh Bishop, the 'old man' of the squad at 14, gained creditable silver in
the boys 50m breaststroke in a personal best time and rounded off a successful
day with 4th, two 5th and a 6th placing in his other swims.
11-year-old Molly Paulin was up against a strong field of swimmers but
achieved 4th, 5th and 6th place ribbons for the 1066 squad. Molly achieved the
highest number of PBs during the day, improving her times on every swim.
9 year old Cassie Matthews knocked 16 seconds off her previous best time in
the 200m breaststroke. Other strong performances were put in by Amelia
Markfort, Harry Markfort and Ryan Lee.
As some of the swimmers had been competing the previous evening in the Andy
Holden Trophy at Crowborough, every swimmer needs to be congratulated on
superb swims.
