The recent Alice Dauncey Trophy held at the K2 Crawley proved a good test
for 1066 Swimmers against some of Sussex's larger and more renowned clubs with
the local club finishing a respectable third.
East Grinstead came first with 134 points; Crawley 'A' scored 115 with 1066
Swimmers coming 3rd with 104 points and Crawley 'B' in 4th place with 92
points. In a keenly contested gala, the positions during the evening changed
rapidly with only 16 points between all four teams at one point.
The squad notched up 32 individual PBs during the evening, with some 13
swimmers only just missing out by a few hundredths of a second, and 33 relay
splits were faster than previous swims.
Notable improved swims came from Katie Batkin, Megan Hawkesley, Cassie
Matthews, Ruby Hammond, Molly Paulin, Daniel McKenna, Liam Coleman, Harry
Dyer, Ben Coles, Jordan Harris, Lucy Howes, Matthew Kennedy, Dan White, Robert
Barnett, Catherine Welford, Ben King, Billy Matthews, Alex Mileham, Alice
Smith, Jess Honeysett, Lydia Harrison and Lucy Puddefoot.
The squad, whose numbers were reduced due to the unavailability of some
swimmers, missed out on vital points as they were unable to swim relay teams
in the boys lower two age groups. Yet despite this setback all swimmers
excelled themselves and team spirit was exceptional.
Lead Coach Phil Benton said "Although we finished third the swimmers
enjoyed the evening and the personal results showed how much they have
improved."
