A batch of 1066 swimmers travelled to Cranleigh to participate in their
seasonal gala and came away with a fistful of medals and pbs. Heading the
medal table was Emma Cannon,15, who won the 50m freestyle and 100m
breaststroke and was pipped into silver place in the 100m freestyle and Jess
Honeysett,11, who collected gold in the 50m breaststroke and the 100m
freestyle. Jess missed out on another gold in the 50m freestyle because she
was too fast and received a speeding ticket (which happens in timed galas) but
managed to win bronze in the 50m butterfly, and fourth in the 100m butterfly (pb)
to round off a good weekend for the young swimmer.
There was further gold for 1066 with Catherine Welford,16, winning the 100m
backstroke who then went on to claim silver in the 100 IM. Megan Williams,16,
finished the day with a silver in the 100m breaststroke, bronzes in the 100m
backstroke and the 100m IM.
Harry Crotty,12, continued his improvement with some personal best times to
capture silver in the 100m breaststroke, a bronze in the 100m backstroke and
two fourth place finishes in both the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle. Silver
was the medal received by Josh Bishop,13, for his performance in the 50m
freestyle and he also collected a bronze in the 100m breaststroke (pb).
Young Harry Dyer,9, incurred a speeding ticket in the 50m backstroke so
unfortunately missed out on picking up a Gold medal but in doing so secured a
place at this years' County Championships for his efforts.
Though shy of any medal-ware there was a glut of personal bests by all the
other swimmers notably Amelia Markfoot, Zoe Coleman, Anthony Donaldson,
Johanna Welford, Chloe Baker and Harry Turner.
On the same weekend three more of 1066 promising swimmers went to Portsmouth
to try their luck. Ella Watson,11,came away donned in silver for her performances
in the 200 IM, 100m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke (pb) and amidst all
the silver was a bronze for the 200m freestyle. Chloe Pollard,11,claimed
bronze in the 100m freestyle and a fourth place in the 100m backstroke. Ellie
Williams,13, clocked four top ten finishes in the 200m freestyle,100m
butterfly,100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.
