Victoria Turner,15, of 1066 swimmers became the South East Region Champion
in both the 50m and 100m backstroke at Aldershot.
Swimmers from as far a field as the Channel Islands to Milton Keynes, from Folkestone
to Portsmouth gathered at the Army Garrison to compete in this high level Meet
to try and be crowned SE Champion.
The local girl first broke her personal best well inside the National
Qualifying time in the heats of the 100m backstroke and qualified for the Open
Final as the youngest competitor. Having already secured the Southeast
Regional title for the 14/15 year age group the 1066 swimmer then produced
another fine display in a hotly contested Final in which she came
seventh.
The 50m backstroke heats saw Victoria ease into the Open Final and like
with the 100m backstroke she was the youngest and therefore already guaranteed
another Southeast Regional title. This time the final saw Victoria produce a
magnificent swim not only finishing second against her older rivals but also
rubber stamping her place in this event at the Nationals at the end of
July.
Adam Rouncivell,15, continued his progress into the National rankings when
he became the fourth fastest 15 year old in the 50m freestyle which booked his
place in Sheffield for the Nationals. The 1066 swimmer then recorded long
course pbs in the 50m backstroke and both the 100m (7th) and 200m
freestyle.
