A small cluster of 1066 swimmers descended on Bognor to compete in the 50m
Sprints Meet and came away with a bag load of medals. The Meet consists only
of 50m sprints in all four disciplines plus the 100 Individual Medley.
The morning session saw Joshua Bishop capture 4 golds in the backstroke,
butterfly, breaststroke and the 100 IM, all in much improved times. 1066's
success continued when young hopeful Lucy Puddefoot claimed gold in the
freestyle, a well deserved silver in the backstroke and a bronze in the 100
IM, once again all personal best times.
More gold for the local swimming club when Harry Crotty recorded a pb in
the breaststroke to be ahead of the field. Clocking life time best in all his
swims Ben Coles took silver in the IM and two bronzes in the backstroke and
freestyle. Joining in the silver haul was Jean-Jaques Choron in the
breaststroke and then a bronze in the 100 IM followed by Robert Barnett who
claimed silver in the backstroke. Though without a medal Chloe Baker logged
vast improvements especially in the backstroke, the 100 IM and the
breaststroke. Most satisfying was the 23pbs set out of 33 swims for the
morning session.
The afternoon brought more golds for 1066 when Johanna Welford bagged a hat
trick of golds in the freestyle, butterfly and the IM and with a silver in the
backstroke it was a good Meet for the young talent. Hot on her heels was her
sister Catherine who notched up golds in the butterfly and 100 IM and took
silver in the backstroke. Henri Choron bettered his breaststroke time to land
silver to round off a successful Meet for 1066's improving swimmers.
