1066 shine at Relay Gala

1066 swimmers travelled to the K2 at Crawley to compete for the Gladston Voller Trophy, a competition solely orientated  around Relays. It produced a highly entertaining and competitive evening of swimming which was fully appreciated by the packed auditorium. Nearly ever race was hotly contested with 1066 showing that they deservedly are at home with the larger clubs. The final tally reflected this. Beacon 170 points,1066 131,Crawley 128,Brighton 121,Littlehampton 96,Hailsham 61 and Erith 28 points. Second place was a remarkable result for the local swimming club.

Though there was a jovial atmosphere between the swimmers they all produced magnificent performances without any disqualifications. Some of them were under starter orders for the first time for the club. Harry Dyer, Chloe Baker, Henri Choron, Charlie Welford, Daniel McKenna and Sam Godwin all swam above expectations for their initial club event.

Tracey Peppiatt was enthused by everyone's display in the pool "This was a good team performance, everyone supported each other and the improvement in their swims was remarkable.

The following weekend at Newhaven 1066 came second behind Beacon again, in the Frances Tufnell gala, to a rather complicated system which involved disqualification if you swam to fast known as speeding tickets. 1066 swimmers incurred numerous speeding tickets which lost them points but showed how they are improving on a personal level. Once again 1066 field more fledglings like Harry Crotty, Zoe Coleman and Ben King so they could gain experience for the future. There were many outstanding improvements especially from Charlie Mc Kenna, Ben Coles, Sophie Griggs, Daniel McKenna, Conal Groves, Matthew Mileham, Amelia Harrison, Natalie Pollard, Rebecca Ellis, Megan Williams, Todd Alsop and Ellie Williams.
