Spectacular display by 1066

The Atlantis Open produced one of 1066's outstanding display of personal achievements with 20 swimmers recording 55 pbs throughout a very long and hot day at Horsham .  Apart from the numerous pbs 1066 claimed a bagful of medals with Brandon Johnson,9,winning not only gold in the 50m backstroke but also setting a new Meet record as well, then continued his rapid progress with four pbs and a silver in the 100m backstroke.

Catherine Welford took an incredible 6 silvers, a bronze and 5 pbs to round off a memorable day for the teenager. Young Henri Choron, under starters orders for the first time, smashed his pb to catapult him into silver position in the 100m breaststroke and recorded another pb in the 100m fresstyle. Emma Cannon,14, rekindled her performance in the 50m breastsroke by notching up a pb and was rewarded with a silver medal for her efforts. Megan Williams,15, had 5 placings, a pb and a bronze medal in the process for the 100m freestyle

Many of 1066's up and coming swimmers were experiencing their first Opens and each one performed magnificently. Harry Crotty (3pbs), Lucy Puddefoot (4pbs), Carys Williams (5pbs including a 23 second pb and a new club record), Molly Paulin (pb) and Robert Barnett (2pbs) all swam beyond expectations.

The development of the rest of the 1066 squad who where there, was also highlighted with more personal bests being set. Joshua Bishop improved in all his swims as did JJ Choron, Amelia Harrison, Lydia Harrison, Anna Raman, Alice Smith and Rosanne Smith. Sophie Griggs clocked 2 pbs, Ben Coles a pb as did Charlotte Johnson.

Head Coach Dave Pollard said " The encouraging news was the countless pbs set by the swimmers and special mention must go to the younger swimmers who all performed and acted admriably throughout the whole day. Many of the pbs were drastically reduced by significant amounts which shows the vast improvements these swimmers are making."

At the South East Youth Regionals held in Aldershot for the Victoria Turner,14, competing in the 14/15 year age group finished fourth overall in the 50m backstroke and 7th in the 100m backstroke whilst Todd Alsop,17+, bettered his time in the 50m butterfly.
