1066 Swimmers County Bonanza

1066's young swimmers produced a spectacular display at the first weekend of the Sussex County Championships to rubber stamp their growing reputation. The County's cream assembled at the K2, Crawley to battle it out for individual supremacy with our local club, 1066, vying against the might of swimmers from across Sussex from the likes of Brighton and Crawley.

Ten year old Chloe Pollard got the ball rolling to this triumphant weekend with first qualification to the 50m backstroke final where she set another pb to be crowned County Champion. Her success continued, she qualified as the third fastest for the 50m freestyle final but smashing her previous best she secured another gold and title. Having to swim up an age group in the 100m events she even reached the backstroke final in a S.E Regional time coming seventh with yet another pb.

Victoria Turner,13, started her weekend off to a blistering start with a National Qualifying time in the heats of the 100m backstroke and followed that up, in what was a one sided final, with a County title in her age group, then in the Open Final she won silver in the Youth section and bronze in the Open division for the same event. She was first in her age group in both the 100m I.M and 50m freestyle. The 100m freestyle saw her qualify for the final as the fourth quickest but a determined swim earned her silver.

In his first County Championships Ryan Lee,10, certainly proved he was one for the future with an outstanding performance to earn silver in the 100m I.M, silver in the 200m freestyle and silver in the 200m backstroke (S.E Regional time) all in personal best times. The 50m butterfly saw Ryan reach the Final and with an improved swim from the heats he came fourth overall.

Darius Khalesi,11, had a gruelling weekend but still clocked up pbs in ever swim. The 50m breaststroke saw the young 1066 swimmer take silver in a pulsating final and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke (SER). Having reached the Final of the 50m butterfly he yet again produced a fine display coming fourth then followed that up with a fifth in the 100m I.M, sixth in the 200m I.M (SER) and a tenth place finish in the 200m freestyle.
Brandon Johnson,9,another prospect in the 1066 camp attended his first Championships and his endeavours earned him a silver in the 200m backstroke (pb) and top ten finishes in the 200m breaststroke (pb),200m freestyle and the 100m I.M.

Ella Watson,11,qualified for the 100m breaststroke final as the youngest competitor in her age group then swam a life times best to win silver in yet another S.E. Regional time.

Adam Rouncivell,14,showed his ever improving talent to the County's elite with third place finishes in his age group in the 200m freestyle and 200m I.M   He made the Final of the 100m butterfly and was edged out of the medals into fourth place. There were pbs for him in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Ellie Williams,12, smashed her time in the heats of the 100m backstroke and improved even further in the Final to merit a bronze. The 100m freestyle saw her have a top ten finish and a pb. Charlotte Rouncivell,12,was another 1066 swimmer to surpass her previous best to have a top ten finish in the 100m freestyle and having reached the Final of the 100m backstroke she produced a better display to claim fourth place.

Todd Alsop,17+,bettered his 100m butterfly time to attain a position in the Final where once again improved to capture sixth place. He then achieved a SER time in the 50m butterfly. Megan Alsop,14, notched up another pb in the 100m freestyle. Jessica Honeysett,10,another debutant to the  Championships slashed her time in the 50m freestyle to make it a glorious weekend for 1066.

Coach Dave Pollard was elated with the performances from all the swimmers 
"The medals and placings are the icing on the cake for the swimmers but more importantly it is the 33 pbs,16 S.E Regional times and 1 National Qualifying time that the club are so proud of. I like to congratulate all the swimmers for all their hard work especially the youngsters experiencing this prestigious event for the first time."
